Q Do I have to issue a contract of employment to a fixed term worker? They are only going to be employed for 3 months.
A You are required to issue a Written Statement of Particulars within 2 months of an employee starting their employment. Therefore as this employee will have more than 2 months' service, you must issue them with a contract.
Q Our contract of employment hasn't been updated since 2004 and there are a number of changes I'd like to make to the company sick pay scheme. I'm aware our disciplinary and grievance procedures also haven't been updated in line with the statutory procedures. Can I just reissue an updated version to all staff?
A You will need to consult with staff over any changes, but depending on whether or not you're making fundamental changes will depend on how extensive this needs to be. However, don't let this put you off; it is good practice to review and update your contracts on a regular basis.
