Q Our business is very male dominated and we would like to encourage more applications from women. Can we take steps to actively recruit more female staff?
A You can take positive action, but you cannot positively discriminate on the grounds of sex. This means that you can encourage applications from under represented groups, but you should treat all applicants equally during the recruitment process to avoid discrimination claims. Your selection decisions should always be made on the basis of the best person for the job.
