Q How much paternity leave are new fathers entitled to take?
A Two weeks, to be taken within 56 days of the birth of the child.
Q At what rate is paternity leave paid?
A Paternity leave is paid at the same rate as statutory maternity pay, which is currently £117.18 (£123.06 from 5th April 2009) per week.
Q My employee's partner has just given birth to twins. Does that mean he's entitled to double the amount of paternity leave and parental leave?
A No and yes. Paternity leave is two weeks to be taken within 56 days' of the birth regardless of how many children are born as a result of the pregnancy, whereas parental leave is per child.
